Battlefield 4 release confirmed by EA as Beta access is offered

When is Battlefield 4 out?

During a keynote speech at the University of Southern California in November last year, EA exec Frank Gibeau confirmed the release of a Battlefield 3 sequel, simply by saying: ‘There is going to be a Battlefield 4’.
Surprisingly, the announcement was made just two weeks after the Battlefield 3 hit the shelves, the Metro reports. Despite confirming that Battlefield 4 would indeed be released, Gibeau failed to shed further light on the title.
However, with a six year gap between Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3, chances are we won’t be seeing it on shelves any time soon.
Battlefield 3 arrived to much fanfare when it launched back in October last year, selling 5m units in its first week alone. However, it failed to beat the more popular Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which sold a whopping 12m copies in its opening week - that's a 7m difference, for those who don't have their caluclators out.
While we may not see a Battlefield 4 release this year, Activision is tipped to release Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in November 2012, according to reports.
A ‘leaked’ post on the official Black Ops forum read: “This year, Call of Duty will return with its ninth instalment with Black Ops 2. As expected it will be following Treyarch's previous game Black Ops. Its release date is set for the 6th of November."

Is there a Battlefield 4 trailer?

The official trailer for Battlefield 3 was released by DICE and EA a month prior to the first-person shooter’s official launch.
We’re guessing that this could also be the case when the games giants begin their PR drive to create buzz around the title. We’ll keep you updated on any announcements should we hear any.

What will gameplay be like?

With so little rumours about, it’s difficult to predict just what DICE has in store for the upcoming Battlefield 4. However, that hasn’t stopped die-hard fans from conjuring up some ideas of their own.
Forums across the net are littered with user recommendations, with most pointing at better graphics, physics and gameplay. Here are some of our favourites from N4G users.
tr00p3r: "If this is a next-gen title, I would just like to see more of the same from BF3, but with better graphics, like a lot better than what we see at the moment. The gameplay is fine, so it doesn't need too much work. More tanks, jeeps, jets, equipment, unlocks..gonna be epic if this is next-gen."
Ares84HU: "In next gen I want better graphics and physics obviously. But I would love to see 64 player battles on consoles in the next Battlefield game with true destruction. I feel that BF3 was a step back from BFBC2 in the destruction area which is really bad I think because it was one of the biggest features I really loved in the game."
Comments are all good, but how about a visual recommendation? Getting physical

DICE could well be working on a new Frostbite Engine -  Frostbite Engine 2.0 debuted in Battlefield 3 - that will allow for some pretty high-def special effects (even better than the one's seen in Battlefield 3). However, we're yet to hear of any details and will update this post as and when we do.
According to a post on the Battlefield 4-dedicated blog thebattlefiedl4, DICE is preparing the game for next-gen consoles, with versions for the Xbox 720, Sony PS4 and even the Nintendo Wii U - all of which are expected to be released either this or next year - being considered, further fuelling reports that we won't be seeing a Battlefield 4 release in 2012.
